I. Installing the MagicClips CDROM
1. Insert the CDROM into the CD drive.
2. The CD setup screen should appear automatically with the installation options shown. If the settup screen does not appear, then select your CD as follows.
a. In Windows 95, click on Start button, go to Programs, then go to Windows Explorer. Click on Windows Explorer to start it. Click on the drive icon for your CDROM device. In Windows 3.1, double-click on the drive of your CDROM. The CDROM folders and files should appear in the other window.
b. Double-click on the STARTUP.EXE file. This brings up the setup screen.
3. The Windows setup screen contains five icons at the left. From top to bottom they are:
a. Install, which installs the Kudo Image Browser so you can view the images on the CDROM.
b. Catalogs, which displays, after the installation is finished, the file names of the Kudo Image Browser. Clicking on any of these *.kdb files and clicking on Open will activate the Kudo Image Browser for that category and allow you to view the images.
c. Uninstall, which uninstalls the Kudo Image Browser from your computer if you have Installed it earlier and not deleted it in any other way.
d. Browse, which initially displays the Kudo Image Browser files. If you go up in the heirarchy (to the root of the CDROM) you will see the rest of the contents of the CDROM by folders (directories) and file names. The root will have the actual image files in the folders Backgnds (backgrounds), Buscard (business cards), Gospel, Headings, Images. If you wish, you may go directly to these folders and access the TIFF, JPG, etc. files.
e. Exit, which exits the CDROM setup screen.
4. First, click on the Install button to begin installing the Kudo Image Browser. The Kudo Image Browser is provided in place of a printed manual of all the images on the CD, so by installing it you are able to view the images in order to select the one you want. The installation is automatic. Just click on Yes or No according to the prompts. If your configuration is unusual, you may get warning messages.
5. Installation should end with a window of icons for each of the Kudo Image Browser files of the MagicClips CDROM. You may have to move it out of the way in order to see the message that the MagicClips installation has been successfully installed. You have the option to restart the computer immediately to activate the Kudo Browser installation, or to do so later.
6. When you are ready to view the images on the CD, insert the CDROM in its CDROM drive. In Windows 95, click on Start, then go to Programs, then go to S. Husting's Magic Clips.
7. A popup menu will display the categories of the CDROM according to the Kudo Image Browser collection.
a. Click on the LEGAL.DOC to read the legal notice.
b. Click on the README.DOC file to read many tips and tricks regarding the MagicClip CDROM.
c. Click on other names and the Browser will appear with images from that category. Clicking on the Catalog filename will display the five categories of the CDROM. Double-clicking any of those five images will open that category so you can see all the images in it. Clicking on the Master Catalogs filename will display all the images in one file.
8. To navigate in the Kudo Image Browser. Click on the small icons next to the name in the title bars and a popup menu will show you your options to maximize the window so more images can be seen. (There are two title bars, one for the Kudo Browser itself, and one for the file that the Browser opened.)
9. You will find three buttons below the menu bar (below File, Edit, View). The far left button with many small colored squares causes the images to display in their smallest size without any identifying text. The button next to it shows the buttons at their normal size with text below each image, first its filename and below that its size in bytes. You will find images repeated several times in various sizes of bytes, and in various file types. The third button is not useful on this CD.

II. Solutions to some problems you may encounter with the MagicClips CDROM
Situation:
I have difficulty importing TIFF images in Print Shop⌐.
Solution:
Several Broderbund⌐ Print Shop⌐ products support only 256 color format images. Therefore some of the Print Shop⌐ series cannot directly import MagicClips⌐ images because they are millions of colors. To import into Print Shop⌐ software, you must first convert them into 256 color images (such as .PCX) in another image editing program. Print Shop Ensemble 3⌐ DOES work, however, with the Object Add, Import command without having to convert the images first. Situation:
How do I place images from the Kudo Image Browser⌐ into own Windows 95⌐ program?
Solution:
In Windows 95⌐ you may drag and drop the image into those programs that support it, such as Microsoft Word⌐. Simply start your MagicClips⌐ CDROM and turn to the area in the catalog where the desired image appears. Then start the program where you want the image to be placed. Resize the program borders so that the image in the browser and your program are both visible. Point at the image with your cursor, hold down the left mouse button, and drag the cursor to the program window. Let go of the button when the cursor changes shape (such as into a square), either within the document window, or in the title bar at the top. Wait while the file copies, and then you will see it appear in your program. The time you will have to wait for the computer to transfer the image will depend on the image size, CDROM drive, and computer speed.

Situation:
How do I view the images in Kudo Image Browser⌐?
Solution:
After you have installed the browser, you may access the image folders simply by clicking on Win95⌐'s Start button, sliding the cursor to Programs, then to S. Husting's Magic Clips, then click on the category you are looking for. If you wish to view another category without closing the browser, click on File, then Open, then go to the drive of your CDROM. The browser folders are labeled with a .KDB extension. Double-click on any file with that extension and it will display.

Situation:
Accessing Ray Dream⌐ 3D images from the MagicClips CDROM.
Solution:
Insert the MagciClips⌐ CDROM in your CD drive. Open your Ray Dream⌐ program. Click on File, then Open, then go to your CD drive. You will find the 3D models under [cdrom drive]:/Images/3dfiles and [cdrom drive]:/Headings/3dfiles with .RD3, .RD4 or .RDS extensions. If your Ray Dream⌐ version is 5.0 or higher, then check that the File Types section of the Open dialog box has these .RD3 or .RD4 file types displaying. (Click the down arrow, click on its scroll bar until you see the extensions displayed. Click on the extension.) Then you should be able to find the files under [cdrom drive]:/Images/3dfiles and [cdrom drive]:/Headings/3dfiles. The other categories do not have 3D files listed under them because they are already composed of files in [cdrom drive]:/Images/3dfiles. Further notes: If you use the [cdrom drive]:/Headings/3dfiles, you will likely find your font different from that used in the illustrations because Ray Dream⌐ does not save the font files with its own files. In some cases you may find models without surface textures or images.

Situation:
The same image file seems to be repeated too many times in the browser.
Solution:
The files are in different sizes and formats. Originally, the different file's formats were placed in different folders. When they were added to the browser for the CDROM, though, they were all lumped together. Look at the number accompanying the image in the browser and you will find large numbers and smaller numbers. These indicate whether they are high resolution for commercial printing, or low resolution for home printer printing, depending on the image.

Situation:
The CD won't install. The CD autostarts, the install screen comes up, I click on install -
I get a dialog that says the program is searching the hard disk for other
Kudo executables, I click OK, another OK comes up, another OK comes up,
then the system locks or crashes. I have Win95 and one other Kudo product installed: a "50,000 color photos" CD-Rom product.
Solution:
Bypass the Kudo autoplay by depressing the shift key when you insert the
CDROM. Start the Kudo installer by double clicking with the left mouse
button on (CDROM Drive Letter):\WIN_KUDO\SETUP32\SETUP.EXE from the right
side of the Windows File Explorer. This should install the new version of
Kudo Catalog Reader on your drive.

III. What changed in this version of the MagicClips CDROM?
The first version contained trademarked portions not authorized for the CD. Those portions have been altered without reducing the number of files on the CDROM. Thus, if you see Bicycle (TM) playing cards in the image browser, those Bicycle (TM) portions have been replaced with original designs.
